Hazelwood House is situated on the corner of New Barn Road, not far from the centre of East Cowes. The main bus routes to Newport and Ryde are close by, as well as the floating bridge to Cowes and Red Funnel Ferry which will take you to Southampton.
The team at Hazelwood provides 24 hour support to Adults with mild to moderate Learning Disabilities and challenging behaviour.
The staff support is structured to meet individual requirements. Community participation and involvement is actively encouraged through person centred planning to meet individual goals and aspirations which keep the person safe and happy.

Our Services Offered
- Hazelwood House provides leisure activities on the weekend, all service users choose these activities on a Saturday morning. All leisure activities are supported by the staff on shift.
- All Service users are also given the choice if they wish to go out in the evening to social clubs or pubs in the local community this enables the individuals to live as any other citizen in the community.
- All service users are given a choice to take an annual holiday and staff is available to accompany and support these trips, unless stated otherwise in your contract you will require paying for these holiday.
- Emphasis is placed on ensuring that each service user enjoys the highest quality of life and they are supported and encouraged to reach their fullest potential.
- The service operates a key worker system, this allows the individual to rely on the member of staff who will provide care, support and act as a confidant. Choice is encouraged by staff as a feature of everyday life to promote individuality and self-respect.
- The service provides care that promotes choice and daily living regardless of the individual’s ability, respecting privacy and dignity. Full use is made of professional’s external to the home, ensuring that each service user is exposed to as many appropriate and different experiences as possible.
- East Cowes has a medical centre where the G.P, Practice Nurse, District Nurse, Chiropody and other health professionals hold clinics.
- Service Users are supported to register with a G.P and Dentist of their choice along with any other specialist service, where necessary. Staff members are available at all times to monitor and administer any medication prescribed (21+). Lockable facilities are provided for those service users who have been assessed as being able to manage their own medication.
- Encouragement and support is given for people to participate fully in arranging appointments, making decision and attending reviews relating to their health care.
- Hazelwood House has a policy to establish beliefs and supports anyone wanting to attend a church of their choice.
About the Property
Hazelwood House is a detached house built in 1904 by a local builder with colour washed elevations and tiled roof. The gardens are mostly laid to lawn with shrubs and fruit trees, which may be of particular interest to people who are a keen gardener. There are 3 patio areas. One of which incorporates a B.B.Q. There is also a large summer house.
At the front of the house is a large driveway, which provides ample parking for staff and visitors.
The home has wheelchair access via a small ramp; which leads to the front entrance.
The home complies fully with Fire Regulations; a Fire Officer makes regular visits and inspects the premises to ensure fire safety is maintained to a high standard. The home has weekly fire and electrical lighting checks, monthly fire drills. Hazelwood House is also inspected by representatives from health and Safety and the Environmental health Agencies.
