Regard’s aim is to provide the highest possible quality of support to the people who use our services.  We will develop a package of care and support based on an individual’s assessed needs. Our aim is for individuals to gain greater independence and support them to move on to from residential care to supported living in the community where possible.

The longstanding staff team at Berkeley House is highly skilled in supporting service users with learning disabilities and challenging needs. Their consistent approach and expertise with implementation of behavioral support plans and total communication has proved most beneficial in stabilising behaviors and enhancing quality of service users lives.

The Property

Berkeley House is a stunning property located within the rural Kent countryside. There are three separate dwellings within the beautiful grounds.

The Bakery:
Residential service which can support up to ten adults with learning disabilities and challenging needs. This is an all male service and high staffing levels compliment varying levels in needs.

The Granary:
Small residential service for four people. This is the ideal service for people preparing to move from residential care onto supported living, in fact some service users have recently moved onto supported accommodation in the local community. Support within this service is very much structured to the model of supported living and there is high emphasis on independence skills training.

The Windmill:
Small residential service for five people, currently an all female service and the accommodation can meet the needs of people with physical needs/ wheelchair use. Again a very individual service and support is implemented to fully reflect the needs of individuals.

All the above homes back onto very large grounds which house, chicken pen, mini allotment and BBQ area. All service users make full use of this space and the service is a hub of social activity during the summer months.

Resource Centre:

The grounds also house a large resource facility, which offers a full program of structured educational and recreational activity. There is an arts and crafts area, computer room, life skills training kitchen and fully equipped sensory facility, which is proving most popular, especially for people with autism.

Testimonials

“I really want you to communicate to all the staff in the Granary that I think they are doing a superb job with M. I have never seen him more happy, relaxed and confident.

“I spent Saturday with M at his birthday party at the family home…in the past I have seen him in similar situations where he has attached himself to a safe person for the duration of the event…On Saturday he was a confident ‘party animal’. He circulated amongst his guests, joining one group after another…a very different young man. Well done to all your staff.”
