Valona is situated in the small community of Crediton in Mid-Devon and offers residential care and support to Adults aged 18-65 who have Learning Disabilities and complex health and physical needs. Staff are trained to support individuals with challenging behaviour through de-escalation techniques and behavioural management plans and strategies .Valona offers 24 hour care and support in a safe environment which encourages and promotes people to gain confidence in their lives, and promotes decision making and choice through a person centred approach, dependent on the specific needs and communication requirements of each person.

- Staff are trained in Total Communication , using this in everyday practices to ensure people with communication difficulties have the ability to communicate in a way that makes sense to them

- Daily living skills, including meal preparation, cooking and domestic skills

- Choice and support to attend college/events/activities
- Awareness of health promotion, health related conditions and specialist support to access professionals
- Actively participate in community events through one to one sessions and planned events with other tenants
- Individuals are involved in the recruitment and selection of the staff that support them.
- Involvement in our quality checkers project
- Medication self assessment programme – from understanding why a person takes medication right through to training and assessment to self medication
- Road safety awareness and support programmes to enable greater independence in the community (with planned risk management)
- Support to participate in weekly health and safety, fire and first aid checks, as well as nightly security checks and keeping safe awareness
- Participation in training and awareness workshops in relation to keeping safe, saying no to abuse, speaking out and recruitment
We focus on such issues as service user’s rights, inclusion, choice and independence, autonomy, attainment, respect, privacy, dignity, equality and diversity. Staff ensure that service users are fully included in all the decisions made in respect of their lives and we encourage our service users to have a choice in their everyday life to promote individuality and self respect. Our aim is to provide a stimulating environment with an emphasis on independent living and to work with the service users to achieve full independence wherever possible.
About the Property
Valona is a converted bungalow in a residential area conveniently located within a 5 minute walk to the town providing easy access to all local amenities. It is 5 miles from Exeter and the M5 and therefore provides easy access to both the local and wider community.
The property provides 4 single rooms, one with en suite, and large shared sitting room, kitchen, dining room and bathroom. There are front and rear gardens with overlooking views to beautiful rolling country side.
