Woodlands provides a specialist managed move on service for 6 young adults with moderate/border line learning difficulty and who experience other associate complex emotional issues.
There is an emphasis on independent living and supporting individuals to develop their social and interpersonal skills through a process of enablement.
There is an expectation that housemates will engage with a comprehensive assessment in order to develop a person centred support package in order to realise their hopes and dreams.
Specialist Expertise
Overall service delivery is supported by a highly trained staff team who hold professional qualifications which are bespoke to the service. This enables the service to meet the needs of our ever changing youth culture and use a more dynamic approach to our service provision.
Communication is often a difficulty experienced by many young adults and as such we have developed a range of creative workshops in order to facilitate self development and effect change. Staff are also trained in intensive interaction, total communication, art, drama and group workshops.
The service operates ‘cycle for change’ a notion developed by housemates and includes weekly drama therapy workshops, multi media production, all aspects of social learning and restorative justice.
The philosophy of the service is underpinned by the ideals of enablement which is based on the recovery model, a philosophy that the team is fully committed to.
All staff are trained in the philosophy of enablement and the Service Manager is trained to train others in this model.
