We are all delighted that Andrea Cully, who runs Kneller Road care home in Whitton, Twickenham, was crowned Registered Care Home Manager 2014 for the London Region at the Great British Care Awards.
She was presented with her trophy for winning the London region award at a glittering gala evening at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London’s West End hosted by the UK’s leading compère Steve Walls.
Andrea will now go forward to the national finals of the annual competition at the Grosvenor House, Marriott Hotel, in London on April 24.
Said Andrea: “I was so taken aback when they called out my name, I couldn’t believe it. I am so honoured. I work with a fabulous team at Kneller Road and I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Andrea joined the service in 2012 after being made redundant from a charity for people with learning disabilities where she had worked for 18 years.
“Care has been my life and I’m passionate about learning more about the way we understand people with disabilities.
“Attitudes are slowly beginning to change, but there is still a huge way to go to make sure people with special needs are included in our society.
“Just like the rest of us people with disabilities want to be heard. Listening to what they are they are trying to say, and talking to them appropriately and respectfully, has a huge impact on their quality of life.”
Kneller Road is a five-bed home that supports adults with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.
