Care Specialists Regard Rally Round to Boost Autism Charity

Care specialists Regard have raised hundreds of pounds for an Autism charity with a range of events across East Anglia.

The events took place as part of activities to highlight World Autism Awareness Day, which took place on 2 April.

On Friday, 1 April, around 50 Service Users and staff were involved in a “relay rally” that took them from Boston, Lincolnshire to Clacton, Essex, with further stops in King’s Lynn, Norfolk; Peterborough, Cambridgeshire; and Haverhill, Suffolk.

At each location, the Regard Service Users and staff that had travelled by car from the previous town stayed on to collect funds in aid of the National Autistic Society and collect a clue, with a £20 gift voucher prize for the Service User who solved it. Meanwhile, another car carrying Regard representatives travelled to the next destination to continue the “relay rally”.

In total, the street collections raised £840.91. Meanwhile, two of Regard’s services for children, both near Holbeach, Lincolnshire, provided a boost of more than £600 to the fundraising. Easter Cottage raised £125.91 with a car wash and Roman House organised a sponsored walk that brought in more than £500.

Gill Holt, Regional Director for Regard in North and East England, said: “In total, as a region we have raised almost £1,500, with money continuing to come in. We are absolutely thrilled to have achieved such a fantastic sum for the National Autistic Society and would like to say a very big thank you to everyone involved in our fundraising events, and to all our sponsors and donors, for helping to make this initiative such a success.”

Founded in 1994, Regard operates more than 120 supported living and residential care services across England and Wales for people with Learning Disabilities, Mental Health needs and Acquired Brain Injuries, as well as providing care and support to children and young people.
