Portland Street

Portland Street is a CQC registered home for residents from 18-65 with enduring Mental Health problems.

Details of vacancies: There are currently no vacancies at this service.

Portland Street will accept short, medium or long-term referrals from all MH teams and has especially good relationships with Norfolk, Norwich, and Peterborough. We provide residential care for adults with Mental Health needs and focuses on enabling service users to reclaim control over their lives through use of the Recovery Model. Service users are encouraged to participate in the day to day running of their home as well as their own recovery to independence.

The home is fully staffed at all times and has a sleeping night worker as well as a part-time cleaner and full-time manager and senior support worker all with excellent knowledge and understanding of the service users within their care.

Portland Street service users are actively encouraged to attend groups and courses in the community to improve on their integration into the community as well as learning new skills.

Staff knew the people they supported well and provided them with the support they wanted to receive. Staff treated people in a respectful and caring manner and interactions between people and staff were relaxed and friendly. Staff respected people’s privacy and dignity. People received care and treatment in accordance with their identified needs and wishes. Care plans documented information about people’s personal history, choices and preferences and preferred activities.

People knew how to complain and felt confident to do so if they needed to. People felt that the atmosphere in the home was open, friendly and welcoming and that the registered manager and staff were approachable.

Success Stories

Portland Street is two joined houses with single rooms, five of which are en suite as well as a flat for two service users who are able to live a more independent life. There are another two ground floor rooms or service users with some mobility issues.

Portland Street is close to the railway and bus stations and town centre so is ideally situated for promoting independence with the service users. Many of our service users enjoy local walks and bus trips across the area.

The home is close to the local swimming pool and leisure centres where service users can be supported to use the facilities on offer including gyms, saunas and access to sports parks for more specific training. There is a vehicles to transport service users to appointments, home visits, leisure activities as well as voluntary work placements when public transport is not appropriate or available.

We are close to the north Norfolk coast (12miles from Hunstanton) and can take full advantage of local seaside resorts, coastal villages and nature reserves. We are very fortunate to have the use of a beach hut, situated in Old Hunstanton and so most weekends involve a trip to the coast for those who wish to take part.

In line with the policy of Recovery and Social Inclusion, we help service users relearn the skills required for daily living in order for them to move towards increased independence and minimum support. As a result, we enable people to improve the quality of their lives and make positive changes in areas that are important to them, rather than just alleviating their symptoms. We are motivated to have a good quality of life here.
