Current Profile of Service The property is a large detached house 5 minutes’ walk from the beach. Each service user has his/her own furnished bedroom with en-suite facilities.

Hours Provided The service has 6 members of staff on duty throughout the day and has 2 waking night staff.

Focus of Service We aim to assist individuals to develop independence using a multi-professional approach targeted towards resident’s needs and aspirations.

People’s privacy and dignity were respected. Staff had a caring attitude towards people. We observed staff smiling and laughing with people and offering support. There was a good rapport between people and staff.

The registered manager operated an ‘open door’ policy and welcomed feedback on any aspect of the service. There was a stable staff team who said communication in the home was good and they always felt able to make suggestions. They confirmed management were open and approachable.

The communal areas of the home include a large and well equipped kitchen, dining area, sensory lounge and activity room in the garden area.All nine bedrooms have an en suite bathroom or wet room, with toilet and washbasin. There is also an additional communal bathroom.

The home is conveniently located for access to resources in Selsey including a wide range of shops, a post office, banks, cafes, restaurants and pubs. The sea front has a shop and play area, promenade and lifeboat launch pad.

Transport to and from the home is often provided by Lambourne’s own vehicles although there is also a bus stop close by. The nearest large town is Chichester, which is about eight miles away. Other towns nearby include Portsmouth, about 15 miles away and Bognor Regis.

Everyone living at Lambourne has a person-centred, individualised activity plan, created to meet their specific needs. Some activities involve several service users, some are accessed more independently.

There are many local resources close to Lambourne House, including an adult education college offering classes for adults with special needs and a large library. There are two leisure centres with splash pools, gymnasiums and health suites.

The home also has access to a local horse riding facility, which is enjoyed by the residents, and Pagham Harbour Local Nature Reserve and local parks are close by.

Karen Bailey is the service manager at Lambourne House with 7 years’ experience. Karen started as a care assistant at the age of 16 years in an elderly care home to working in an assessment and treatment unit for people with learning disabilities / mental health issues in the NHS. Karen has NVQ 3 and 4 plus a Diploma 5 in social care.

The team excluding Karen have around 100 years’ experience between them! The team are a well- established group many of which have worked for the company for 6+ years. 10 staff have their NVQ level 3 in care. Many of the staff have received specialist training in Autism, Epilepsy and Behaviours which Challenge.

Daniel and William, who are brothers, have both lived at Lambourne House since 2008 after moving from a residential school in Herefordshire. Since moving in, they have overcome personal challenges, taking huge steps forward in their development, thanks to support from the Lambourne team.
