Woodlands is a large property spread over three floors within a small established community on the edge of the Tamar Valley in Gunnislake, East Cornwall. It comprises of a spacious kitchen, dining room, living room and full laundry facilities all of which are shared communal spaces. There are also two communal bathrooms. There are six large bedrooms all of which can be decorated to individual taste – two of these have en-suite shower rooms. There is a large established garden that encircles the whole property.
Full needs and risk assessments completed by trained and experienced staff in liaison with the individual and anyone else they wish to be involved such as family, friend, or advocate. We will support tenants with a range of activities including budget planning and support with finances, along with meal planning, preparation and shopping, household tasks, including laundry and housework. Planning social and leisure activities including college, voluntary work, establishing community links, promoting self advocacy or supporting access to advocacy services. We provide continuity and consistency of support by experienced support workers chosen with the individuals involvement.
Michael Strickland is the service manager at Woodlands – he is qualified to NVQ Level 4 in Health & Social Care and, NVQ Level 4 RMA. Furthermore, Michael has 15 years’ experience within the care sector working as both a support worker and progressing to service manager. Michael is able to lead and develop an excellent team and service. Michael has worked with people with mild to severe learning difficulties, complex needs and challenging behaviour. Michael joined Regard as the manager of Woodlands in December 2011, prior to that he was manager of a residential service in Somerset, and he managed a supported living service in Plymouth.
The staff team at Woodlands have a combined total of over 35 years’ experience working within the care sector. The team experience, some of which has been established prior to working at Woodlands, ranges from supporting young people to more elderly clients.
Currently, the team at Woodlands continue to grow and develop under Michael’s leadership. They have completed specialist training in areas, and are able to apply this knowledge within the service, such as; Mental Capacity Act, Managing Challenging Behaviours, Cornwall Safeguarding, Autism, Person Centred Planning Epilepsy and the use of Rescue Medication.
