Following on from the popularity of last year’s sunflower growing competition and ‘Regard in Bloom’, - our competition to find the best garden in Regard, this year we are running a grow your own pumpkins competition.
People we support who attend our Cerrig Camu OWL (Outcomes with Learning) service were keen to get involved.
Sessions had been spent researching the best way to grow the seeds, and then using what they had learned, individuals planted their seeds.
Since then, everyone has been watering their seeds daily and have prepared outside space for planting them once they are ready to go into the ground.
Everyone involved has shown a keen interest in growing the pumpkins and they are all happy and very excited at the prospect of improving their horticultural skills.
Darren Andrews, Activities Co-ordinator thanks everyone for all their hard work so far, and is wishing them every success with the pumpkins.
Gary McGeary, who is supported by the OWL project said “I hope the pumpkins grow really big before Halloween, I would like to put one outside my house and make some pumpkin soup for my family.”
Everyone is looking forward to watching the seeds progress and grow. We are all wondering how big they will be by October, and we are already starting to make plans for what to shapes to carve into them in the Autumn.
