Last week, Portland Street, our residential service in King’s Lynn opened their doors as part of a nationwide Care Home Open Day event.
Care Home Open Day is a UK wide initiative inviting care homes to open their doors to their local communities. Thousands of care homes across the UK take part each year, welcoming the public and arranging events and activities that help to create lasting links between care home residents and their local communities.
Service Manager, Leighanne, arranged to have ‘The Zoo Who Comes to You’ visit the service as part of the day, this included lizards and snakes as can be seen in the photographs.
People from the surrounding area, friends and family all came to visit the service for the celebrations.
The week leading up to the event everyone in the service got involved in preparations for the day, this included baking cakes.
Leighanne found the zoo company online and would highly recommend them for anyone else’s future events. The people we support were able to ask lots of questions about the animals and the staff were happy to answer everything for them.
A family member of someone who has recently moved into Portland Street found the day very emotional, she had a great time and described the service and support as “amazing”.
Everyone is looking forward to the next party after the success of the day.
