Training is an important part of staff being able to support the people we work with effectively; the people we support are those with learning disabilities, autism and challenging behaviour.

PROACT-SCIPr-UK® is about the whole approach, it familiarises staff with ways of supporting individuals to maintain self-control by teaching appropriate communication techniques and individual coping strategies, the course supports staff to use the least restrictive options though crises episodes. It includes all elements of our work; it supports inspection requirements and affects everyone in our organisation.

To reinforce the training, candidates have a theory paper at the end of each day. Since the introduction of PROACT-SCIPr-UK® to ACH in the South East we have seen a dramatic decrease of physical interventions being taught and used. We currently only have one home with prescribed interventions, within a person individual behaviour support plan.

Prior to this reduction more than six homes had prescribed intervention, with this in mind it clearly shows staff are working well within their homes and clients are receiving good dedicated support so its win win all round.

Attached are some pictures of staff taking part in PROACT-SCIPr-UK® training.
