Beudygwyn Farm

Specialism: We are a male only service that provides support for individuals who have moderate learning disabilities, mental health needs, complex and challenging behaviour. Acquired brain injury and /or physical disabilities. Current specialism’s; autism, acquired brain injury, physical disabilities. We use the Active Support model and outcome based activity program.

Age Range 18-64

Current Profile of Service: One bedroom in a two bedroomed cottage, and One bedroom in a three bedroomed cottage, with the potential to allow those with limited mobility or wheelchair users, maximisation of their own independence.

Hours Provided: There is a Registered Manager at the service and 24-hour support including waking night ‘s.

Focus of Service: Active Support model and outcome based activity; Our services are focused around the individual; enabling them to make their own choices and live the lives they choose. Individuals are assisted in positive risk-taking, so they actively increase their confidence and move towards their goals in achievable milestones. We encourage individuals to access and take part in leisure and vocational activities on the farm, which enable them to build up their skills, in addition to accessing educational and employment opportunities where possible.

Success Stories

The main house is registered for 3 service users with learning disabilities and all 3 bedrooms are on the 1st floor. There is a kitchen, bathroom, lounge, and sensory room. Within the 4 cottages there are a further 11 registered beds that are suitable for service users with learning disabilities and/or physical disabilities. Each cottage has its own lounge/dining room and kitchen, the bathrooms all have wet rooms and there is ground floor accommodation. One of the cottages has a self contained flat that is suitable for a service user that needs rehabilitation training to move from residential care to a more independent setting.

At Beudygwyn there is a full, planned schedule of activities, including an activities room, where many of the activities take place during the day and evening. As Beudygwyn is situated within a short distance to amazing beaches, many of the activities are based outdoors around the beach and local, small seaside towns. The Service Users are fully involved in all aspects of the running of Beudygwyn, and with the support of staff, grow their own vegetables and summer fruits. Each Service User has an allocated key worker and therefore there is the facility to ensure that support is offer to assist service users with their personal shopping, accessing the community or being supported to learn to cook and budget their finances.

Gwenda Potter is the Service Manager and a Welsh speaker. Gwenda has her QCF Level 5 in Health and Social Care Management, the Level 5 Silver Award in ILM Leadership and Management, Level 3 POVA, Managing and Developing People in the Work Place. Prior to working at Beudygwyn Gwenda managed her own dairy farm and livery yard.
