MP (Lewes), Maria Caulfield, congratulates Oak Lodge on their recent CQC achievement;

‘I am writing to congratulate you on the Care Quality Commission report that Oak Lodge recently achieved. To achieve an overall rating of ‘Good’, especially when the inspection visit was unannounced is a strong achievement and a sign of consistently good leadership.This accomplishment is in no doubt due to all of your hard work, and the hard work of the whole team. It is a testament to your dedication and commitment to the home. Furthermore, by working with residents, and the whole staff team you are clearly working to recognise and understand the needs and interests of the individual residents, which is an encouraging sign…’

Sami Baker is the Service Manager at Oak Lodge. She has worked in the care sector for 13 years starting as a care assistant at the age of 17. Sami has an NVQ level 3 in health and social care and is now working towards her level 5.

She has worked for regard for the last ten and a half years starting as a support worker at Lynfords and Marshes and then at Oaklodge and Hillview as a support worker and senior support worker. In January 2015 she transferred to Eastbourne Road where she was service manager for two years. Sami is now back at Oaklodge and Hillview as the manager.

Staff had a good understanding of people as individuals, their needs, and interests. Each person had the opportunity to go out every day. A ‘You said, we did’ board was used to demonstrate that when people made choices about activities arrangements were then made for these to happen.

We observed safe and effective teamwork among the staff when supporting people with their mobility and healthcare needs and staff continually gave reassurance to people and respected their dignity at all times.
