Starboard House is a registered residential home providing support to 7 individuals with moderate learning disabilities. The individuals who use our service require 24 hour support in a safe environment which encourages and promotes people to gain confidence in their lives and promotes decision making and choice which is individualised.

Starboard House is responsive to the changing needs of the person as well as enabling them to maintain the stability of their life. The service supports those with learning disabilities but also has an in depth understanding of autism; health related conditions; complex needs; physical disabilities and mental health needs.

The property comprises a large detached Grade II listed Georgian property with an open plan detached bungalow to the rear. To the front of the property there is parking and the rear garden is divided into patio area and lawn.

On the ground floor there are 2 single bedrooms, a lounge, a dining room, a separate toilet, a kitchen, the office and a wet room. The first floor consists of 4 single bedrooms, a second wet room, a bathroom, two toilets, a separate toilet and sleep in room. There is a detached bungalow in the garden which has an open plan lounge, a single bed, a kitchenette and a shower with water closet. Main bus route to Southampton city is close by the service.

Supporting people to maintain a life that makes sense to them through person centred planning and outcome based support which is specifically designed around the person, their wants, wishes goals and aspirations. We encourage positive risk taking with a person centred planning approach promoting independence and daily living skills. with an awareness of health promotion, health related conditions and specialist support to access professionals. We will give people the confidence and encouragement to make decisions, understand their rights and responsibilities and will promote access to local advocacy. Assistance with personal care and encouragement to become more independent with self care and all aspects of daily living. Staff will support with health appointments and help individuals understand health related conditions through appropriate formats and awareness. We encourage involvement in our quality checkers project and are strong advocates of community participation.

Michelle has been the manager at Starboard House since 2009,she joined the team in 2002 and climbed the ladder to her current position.She has an NVQ level 4 in health and social care and holds an IOSHH certificate as well as a City and Guilds in IT. Michelle feels that beginning as a Support Worker, Senior Support Worker and Deputy Manager has helped her gain the skills to be a good manager with a wealth of experience.

The team at Starboard have been here for many years, with the longest serving staff member having been at the service for 18 years. All staff hold an NVQ 3 in health and social care.

A warm welcome was enjoyed by visitors to our Southampton residential care home recently, when the people who live there held an afternoon tea party as part of the National Care Homes Open Day scheme - a nationwide initiative set up to promote closer links between care homes and their local communities.
