Current Profile of Service Springfield House specialises in supporting people with complex needs and behaviours that challenge. The registered manager an experienced ‘pro-act SCIP trainer’ and her long standing skilled team, pride themselves in supporting people to develop self-management strategies. This can be evidenced by the services’ track record of supporting people to move into supported or independent living environments. The service has 10 en-suite rooms and is well connected with health services and the local community as a whole. Situated close to the beach, with good public transport links.

Hours Provided: Most clients are supported with additional 1-1, these hours are assessed to establish how many staff are needed. The service has two waking night staff.

Focus of Service We aim to support people with learning disability to live as full a life’s as possible, we promote choice and independence and where possible support clients to move forward to supported or semi supported living.

Shared spaces at Springfield House include the large, open plan lounge and dining room, a smaller additional lounge and a large, fully fitted kitchen. All ten bedrooms are en suite, with five on the ground floor and five on the first floor.

The property has a secure rear garden, with a log cabin that is used as a sensory room or an activity room. The garden also has a trampoline and patio area.

Springfield House is a five-minute walk to the town centre and a two-minute walk from the seafront. There is a train station five minutes walk away and Birchington has good links to Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs.

Each service user has an individual activity plan tailored around their likes and dislikes and staff are happy to look into enabling any other activities that residents would like to take part in but which are not currently available.

There are a variety of activities available at Springfield House. Some people attend either Thanet or Westgate College, while others have gained work through an employment agency, with one young man securing a job at the local Asda store.

Springfield House has its own activity co-ordinator, who attends the home on a weekly basis and arranges outings and other in-house activities. An aromatherapist also visits the house on a weekly basis.

Individuals can access local leisure centres for swimming, zumba classes and bowling or visit nearby parks, restaurants and pubs. Thanet also has a safe biking area, where bikes can be hired.

Annamarie Pedrosa is the manager at Springfield House.

The team of 30 staff come with a multitude of experiences and skills and have more than 60 years’ experience between them. All staff attend mandatory training and specialist training service specific, including epilepsy, Makaton and autism.

Independence Day for Springfield’s David

David, who recently moved from Springfield House, has celebrated his first three months of independent living by taking his girlfriend on a visit to Margate’s Halloween scare festival ‘Screamland.’

Kent service users ‘dress to impress’ at Charity Ball

A group of service users from Kent who helped organise their own Dress To Impress charity ball are celebrating raising £440 for charity.
