Specialism: Adults with learning disability, some of whom may have additional complex needs including: epilepsy; mental health needs; autism and/or mobility issues (wheelchair users). We can also support health needs.

Details of vacancies: There are currently two vacancies available.

Type of service: 24 hour residential care service

Age range:18-65 years

Current profile of Service: The home is large and spacious and comprises of a communal lounge, separate dining room; kitchen and separate laundry area. There is a lift to the second floor. Each bedroom has an ensuite wet room and residents also have access to a communal bathroom if required. As well as 10 bedrooms there is an attached flat which is accessed via a flight of stairs. The flat has a bedroom / lounge area, its own kitchen and bathroom. It is an ideal facility for a resident who needs support 24 hours but wishes to improve their independent skills.

The home also has a large accessible garden and a sensory cabin.

Hours provided: The service is staffed 24 hours a day, with 2 waking night staff and a core staff level of 2:1 plus additional 1:1 hours

Focus of Service: All residents have comprehensive activity plans which ensure that they have meaningful session in and out of the home. We currently provide

Intensive interaction for communication; use of the sensory use; attend the local gym and in house we provide cookery sessions; music; exercise classes; holistic therapy and arts and crafts.

Everyone has an individual support and health plan, which focuses on achieving realistic independent goals.

Whitehatch is an 11 bedded home in Horley, just near to Gatwick Airport. It is near very good travel links. Horley is around 40 minutes from London by train.

The service also has a minibus which is fully accessible for wheelchairs.

We offer each resident a tailor made package of bespokeservices which ensure they lead a meaningful life and have every opportunity available to them. We are creative and look beyond problems to find solutions. All support offered is in a person centred framework where choice and preferences are presented at all levels.

Jane Burse, the service manager is an ex – qualified Learning Disability Nurse since 1990 with an NVQ 4 Management qualification and a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care. With 30 years of experience within the care sector, and having been registered with the Statutory body since 1995 she is able to lead and develop an excellent team and service to support the individuals who live at Whitehatch. Jane prides herself on being resident focused and ensures that all the individuals we support are empowered to make choices and participate fully in the running of their home, even though they have complex disabilities.
