This weekend, Alderton House, our residential service in Littleport, opened their doors as part of National Care Home Open Day.

Across The Regard Group, 20 services will be opening their doors and hosting a variety of events from April to July.

Staff and people who live at neighbouring Regard supported living service Wakeling House were invited and came along for the afternoon. Melanie, the Alderton House Service Manager also invited people to attend from other residential care homes in the area. Everyone said they had a lovely time and enjoyed meeting so many new people.

Following the open day, Melanie received some lovely feedback from parents who were hugely impressed by the service and are now considering other local Regard services for a potential placement for their son.

Regional Director Sam Collier, Area Manager Sue Mace, and Locality Manager Kat Greff also joined the service for the afternoon.

The open day also attracted someone to apply for a job at the service, and he is being interviewed this week, which is a great outcome.

Melanie said “The day was perfect! Beautiful sunshine all day long. We put out a huge selection of sandwiches and cakes in the dining room and set some garden games up outside. We played music and invited people to have a game of croquet.”

Inspired by the event held at the Kingston Office in Yellow October, there was ‘hook a duck’ in a giant paddling pool which was great fun! There was also a comfy hammock you could have a swing in if you wanted to get yourself a tan.

Jolene Reader, Deputy Manager said “The day was very positive. It was great to meet other people from other Regard homes. It was especially nice to have people from a local residential care home, Holly Cottage, come to visit for the day. The people from Holly Cottage really enjoyed the games, and the tea and cakes. It was a great opportunity for me to meet and chat with family members, and members of the public. They all seemed very impressed with the work we do here at Alderton.”

Everyone is looking forward to many more events at Alderton House throughout the coming months.
