Ann Marie has started cooking fresh, healthy meals as part of improving her health and well-being.
Supported by staff, Ann Marie is learning to create a variety of dishes such as healthy vegetarian meals, including risotto and pasta. On Sundays, she shadows the staff, learning how to prepare a Sunday Roast lunch for the other people who live at Wrottesley. Some of the meals Ann Marie cooks include roast chicken, lamb chops, oven baked salmon and vegetables.
As part of her healthy eating plan learning, Ann Marie also participates in the shopping for specific ingredients, following recipes, and meal planning including cutting vegetables, seasoning and preparing meat and fish ingredients.
Ann Marie is also learning to set the oven and hob heat timings, and being supported through all the stages of cooking a meal from start to finish. Staff support her to manage the timings, take breaks, reinforcing the process and positive outcome.
Staff are also supporting Ann Marie to visit the local gym as part of her fitness regime. Ann Marie enjoys weekly Yoga classes and Wellness sessions, which include information on staying ‘Healthy & Safe’, ‘’Making & Sharing Healthy Lunches’, and Keep Fit Classes.
After visiting the gym Ann Marie said “This is the next phase of my plan to becoming healthier!”
Ann Marie is also very active in the local community, and enjoys eating out at local cafes. Sometimes she volunteers to help out at the local Somalian Café, clearing up tables - and she is given a nice meal in return.
Ann Marie also attends local Mencap group activities, and likes attending church, where she volunteers to do charitable work such as helping in the soup kitchen, with food and clothes collections, and with fund-raising bazaars.
