Last week, Rosebank Lodge, our residential service in Mitcham held a picnic as part of Regard’s ‘Big Picnic Fortnight’.

Regard has a long history of charity fundraising, with staff and the people we support voting annually for a charity they wish to support. Last year over £7,000 was raised and donated to the charity MIND.

Service Manager, James Gwabya, invited along staff and people we support from neighbouring Regard services Tolworth Park Road, Thames House and The Grove.

Locality Manager, Maarten Vegting, stopped by in the morning and Cengiz Mehmet, Carly Strange and Paige Saunders from the Kingston office also joined the service for the rest of the day. The team from The Kingston office said that they all had a wonderful time and enjoyed getting to see what it is like within the services.

Katarzyna Kalinska, service manager at The Grove, said: “The picnic was excellent; all of us got to meet new people which was very positive as we don’t do this events very often. The amount we raised for Young Minds was excellent! The people I support at The Grove enjoyed very much, they said, food and cakes were very good, and they want to do BBQ at Rosebank Lodge again.”

The party lasted all day with lots of different actives to keep everyone entertained. Following on from the successful barbeque Rosebank held recently, the team decided to hold another barbeque for their charity event with a wide selection of great food to choose from including chicken wings, hot dogs, kebabs, burgers, salad and lots more.

There was also a cake sale, a raffle and even a dance competition in the evening. Keith Mtungwazi, the service manager at Thames House, showed off his baking talents with some great cakes as well as taking over the BBQ duties. Keith baked a delicious chocolate cake, which he gave to Paige, Carly and Cengiz to take back to the Kingston office to sell to add a little bit of extra money to the Rosebank total. The cake sale raised an additional £35, the team set up a stall in the marketing department of the Kingston office the next day which can be seen in the photographs.

The people we support had a great time surrounded by friends and family. It was nice for everyone to be together to enjoy the sunshine, the food and to raise money for a good cause.

James said: “The organisers did a great job and particular thanks go to Sandra and Gin plus my manager colleagues. We collected £410 in total and that was a huge success”. Everyone was extremely happy with how much money they collectively raised and are looking forward to the next event.

Across Regard we have raised over £3000 from the ‘Big Picnic Fortnight’ events, which is an incredible success for everyone involved, everyone is now looking forward to more fundraising opportunities over the year.
