Pirate-Party-2 Pirate-Party-1

Last week, Cerrig Camu, our residential service in Gwynedd and Cerrig Camu OWL, our Outcomes With Learning day service, held a pirate-themed afternoon tea party.

The party was to raise money for Shelter Cymru, as across Regard this month services have been getting involved in afternoon tea parties to raise money for Shelter and Shelter Cymru.

After a series of brainstorming sessions, the people supported by the services decided on a pirate-theme. For weeks leading up to the event, lots of thought and planning went into decorations and costumes for their chosen theme.

On the day, there were a variety of different activities going on which included face painting, a treasure hunt and even a pirate-themed photo booth with all of the appropriate props.

Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate to be able to have a summer barbecue, but thanks to lots of forward planning the party was adjusted to an inside buffet which everyone enjoyed just as much.

Darren Andrews, Activities Coordinator at Cerrig Camu OWL said “Everyone enjoyed taking part in the fun and games and we also managed to do some fundraising by putting on a small cake sale which included tray bakes, vegan brownies and mini cheesecakes.”

Gary who attends Cerrig Camu OWL said “I had a brilliant time and enjoyed having fun with my friends. My favourite thing was the chocolate brownies they were yummy. I also enjoyed hunting for treasure!”

Jenny who also attends the day service added “The party was great I enjoyed dressing up and using the photo booth”.

The total raised on the day was £70.00.

Darren said “Well done everyone and thank you for all your help and support in making the event such a success.”

Amyleigh Normanton, Service Manager at Cerrig Camu said “It is wonderful to see the people who live at Cerrig Camu and the people that access The OWL centre enjoying each other’s company and having a good time. A fabulous amount raised, well done to all the staff involved in making the day such a huge success. “

Andy Cooper, Fundraising Officer, Shelter Cymru said “Last year more than 18,000 people came to Shelter Cymru for help through either our online Shelter Cymru Live service or via one of our face-to-face advice surgeries. A donation of £10 from The Regard Group would be enough to ensure that someone in need had their call answered through our Shelter Cyrmu Live Service. Sometimes one answered phone call is enough to keep a roof over a family’s head.”
