Last week, Merrington Grange, our residential service in Shrewsbury welcomed families, friends and the local community as part of National Care Home Open Day.

Conrad, who visited the service for the open day, enjoyed his time there so much that he plans to move into Merrington Grange next month. Everyone involved in the event agreed that this is a fantastic result and they are looking forward to welcoming him into his new home.

Across Regard, twenty services will be opening their doors and hosting a variety of events throughout April to July.

Merrington Grange’s Deputy Manager Charlotte said, “The event was lots of fun – we really enjoyed it!”. The people who came along were given bird houses that they could paint, garden games they could play, and there was a disco in the sensory room. The people supported by the service also had the pleasure of showing their families around the house.

This year’s theme was ‘Linking Communities’ so it was lovely to see everyone joining in the fun. They all had the opportunity to throw wet sponges at Charlotte and Team Leader, Steven - which was very entertaining.

Sara Cartwright, whose son is supported by the service, said she was really pleased to be part of such a successful event.

Charlotte said, ‘‘The open day was a big achievement for Merrington - staff, families and the individuals we support were happy and enjoying themselves. We have definitely created an annual event. Families’ feedback has been positive, commenting on how nice it is to see that their family member is happy in their home, and that it was nice to see how passionate and caring the staff are. I do believe families may be bringing their own sponges next time to ensure they can soak me again!”

Reflecting on the success of the day, Service Manager Monika added, ‘‘It was really nice to get to know the families, and see the people we support enjoying themselves. I am proud of Merrington’s staff team for creating a successful and fun day for all. Thanks to Charlotte for organising the event, Fay and Kate for the splendid buffet, and all staff who supported on the day. I am looking forward to hosting more in the future.”
